Planning Your Sabbath
A good Sabbath rest each week is an essential element of healthy soul care. However, if we just take 24 hours off without any type of plan the day won’t be restful. We will fall back into work or become bored with the day. Soon the Sabbath will become drudgery instead of joy.
I want you Sabbath to be the most joyful, life-giving day of the week. It should be the day that energizes you for all the other days. It should be a source of spiritual vitality and relational connection.
For this reason, I’ve created a Sabbath planning guide. It’s a simple list of questions and suggestions to help you plan your Sabbath day. Work through this guide and you will have a list of joy-giving options to choose from each week.
Resources for Sabbath Planning
If you are new to planning a Sabbath, this guide contains a list of several great books on the subject. I also recommend reading Searching For Shalom, an article I wrote on the importance of Sabbath rest. Christianity Today’s article Sabbath-Keeping for Pastors may also be helpful. Ministry Magazine also offers some questions for pastor to consider.
Also check out the Hope Renewed podcast. Our three episode discussion called Caring for the Pastor’s Soul has a lot of information on Sabbath planning for pastors.
Coaching for Clergy and Ministry Leaders
If you are interested in learning more about Sabbath planning in ministry, PIR Ministries offers a six session coaching plan for Pastors and ministry leaders. We can custom design a coaching process that meets your personal or ministry needs. To learn more about coaching, visit our Clergy Coaching page. There, you will find information on our coaching process and a pricing structure.
